Our goal is to add more and more product on all the great comedy legends

Have you always wanted to run your own business? What were some of your
previous jobs / companies?
I've always had my own business and continue to run my own public
relations company, Costello & Company in
Burbank,
CA. As a member of the Lou Costello
estate, I'm actively involved in the family corporation in all areas of
marketing, licensing and keeping the name alive. I authored a book,
"Lou's On First" (St. Martin's Press, 1981) and for five years helped in
the worldwide Abbott & Costello Fan Club.
It was here where we first decided to sell product to A&C fan club
members. Many thought that you had to be a member in order to purchase
product which is why I launched my business
www.abbottandcostellocollectibles.com
Have you got any qualifications? Please tell us about yourself
academically?
My qualifications would be in public relations ...
How / when did the idea of your website / company come about?
When working with the Abbott & Costello Fan Club from 1989-1997. I had
an idea of offering members a chance to purchase licensed Abbott &
Costello product. It was so successful that I began receiving inquiries
from non-members as to whether they could also purchase. This launched
the idea of a web site exclusively devoted to Abbott & Costello. It took
6 months to develop with an excellent web developer, Tomi from Bound On
Earth and to contact various licensees on bringing product in. It was a
matter of months before we began toying with the idea of offering all
the great comedy legends, which we're still building our product base.
One of the goals we have fulfilled is by making sure all product is
shipped within 24 hours after orders are processed. We also built in our
U.S. shipping prices into the
actual product amount. We're hands-on with this web site meaning, any
and all questions and inquiries are answered immediately. We want to
make sure that our customers will come back.
If you could give readers of this book one piece of advice when starting
up a business, what would it be?
It's so important to have an understanding and knowledge of the product
you're selling. Your first year is the toughest as all the monies you
make are being pumped back into the company. Although every company's
set up is different, for me it was a hobby turned business. I set myself
up with my bank for the daily Morning Report so that each morning I have
an email giving me the status of all deposits and debits. I established
accounts with Fedex and UPS.
