Global Music Project

Global Music Project (GMP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides support for global humanitarian and environmentalist charities through the talents of the world's musicians and other artists. Its mission is to better the world through music by bringing financial support and increased awareness to select globally-oriented organizations. Global Music Project is a global effort by artists, representing all styles of music around the world, and people of all walks of life, coming together to give generously in order to better the world.

Have you always wanted to run your own business? What were some of your previous jobs / companies?

I started out as a musician and, being entrepreneur minded, decided to supplement my career by launching my own independent record company, Insight Records (www.insightrecords.com) in 1993. The label specialized primarily in compilation CDs, promoting up-and-coming new artists in the Northwest (U.S.). In the years to follow, my band at the time, Life Like Feel, was gaining some national recognition which included a nationally-released CD on a larger indie label, before disbanding in 1999. As I like to have a lot of things to choose from in order to occupy myself, I also launched NetMusic.com during those years. I nurtured it for years on a very part-time basis and finally decided in 2003 that it was time to bring other people into the fold. Since then, the company has gone public (stock symbol: NTMT.PK) and is a great place for music. I have always wanted to give something back to the world, as well as the music community, and that is why more recently, I have launched Global Music Project. I'm very proud to be its Founder, excited about our team and volunteers worldwide, and of everything we have accomplished so far.

Have you got any qualifications? Please tell us about yourself academically?

Well, coming from being driven to basically be a "rock star" I saw no need for a college degree. However, in addition to my love for music, I have also always had a love for learning, so I managed to get most of the way through college simply by wanting to be there and learn. Since then I have supplemented that education by studying (and most importantly by doing) business, marketing, personal development, and many other subjects on my own as well.

How / when did the idea of your website / company come about?

I thrive on win-win situations. That's really what my life is all about. And I found that along that path of personal development, I decided I basically wanted to make the world a better place, and do that somehow through my love of music. Every time an individual or company makes a donation, whether cash or even company stock, I know that we're being given the opportunity to make a difference and the tools with which to better the world. I feel very fortunate to be involved with Global Music Project.
