Company name: Michael Bartus REALTOR
(Real estate agent with Keller Williams
Realty)

Your company / website vision statement / goal:
Helping home buyers and sellers move to and through the Twin Cities of
Minneapolis and
St. Paul.
What you sell / services you offer (brief description of your company):
I am a REALTOR and I help people buy and sell houses. I help first time
home buyers, relocating people in to or out of the
Twin
Cities and diversifying client's
investment portfolio by guiding them to make wise choices in investment
real estate.
Have you always wanted to run your own business? What were some of your
previous jobs / companies?
Yes. It has always been a dream of mine.
I grew up with a "wheeler dealer" father and I learned how to sell at an
early age.
I was always the kid selling Kool-Aid or bike parts out of my garage. I
had goals and worked hard to achieve those goals. I have been a big
comic book collector for a number of years and the only way I could
afford to buy them was to work for them. I went even as far as to iron
my money to make a large presentation to the older sellers of these
comic books (I was twelve).
I had been involved with computers for a number of years and had my own
business selling Apple Computers to graphic designers. My business
partner and I grew it to a $6,000,000 company with 26 employees. We were
a casualty of decreasing hardware margins and increasing labor costs. We
were part of the dot.com bomb and were on the wrong side of the funding
fence. I decided to get back in to real estate as I had been involved
with it before, knew the industry from my father and I had always made
money buying and selling homes. I have owned real estate since the age
of 21 and have never rented an apartment. I believe in the product I
sell. You would be amazed how many real estate agents don't even own
real estate.
Have you got any qualifications? Please tell us about yourself
academically?
I treated my high school like my college education. I took tough college
level classes in high school because they were free! I did my homework
and studied hard to get decent grades. I wasn't sold on the idea of
going to college and my parents and I hadn't planned financially for me
to go. I discovered at a young age that the sales/marketing profession
was my calling. So I went to many sales seminars (Tom Hopkins) and sold
computer equipment during my junior and senior year in high school. I
continued working for that company and decided to take a year off from
school. I attending a local community college and took sales and
marketing courses in the evenings.
I felt that I could teach most of the classes because I had real world
experience and I totally understood sales and marketing. So I dropped
out to start my own computer business.
I learned real estate from my father who is a REALTOR and a builder. I
also was mentored by a friend of mine and she taught me the relocation
real estate business.
How / when did the idea of your website / company come about?
I find that most REALTORS or real estate agents are cheap and they don't
treat their business like a real business. Most real estate websites are
template based and don't do much on the search engines out there. I
went after the best web programmers and content writers to create what I
believe will be an award winning website when it goes for full launch
the first week in August 2005. Because I work with many out of town
customers, it was important for me to appear high on Google's search
engine and it was important to provide out of Towner’s with as much
information about the area as possible, with out confusing them. I also
wanted to get the message across that I am an approachable person and I
will take the small business with the big business. I also wanted to
create a central resource for me when I need to look for information for
clients.
