What you sell / services you offer (brief description of your company):
Software technology in the field of geographic information
systems. Our software for map display, route calculation, mobile
mapping and other things, is offered as a toolbox and is ready to
be integrated into third party applications.
Furthermore, we provide the Mapping Portal Map24, which is
one of
Europe's biggest route planers,
doing millions of routes per
day.
Have you always wanted to run your own business? What were some of your
previous jobs / companies?
Alex:
Ever since I was a child, I dreamt of running my own business.
From the age of 13, I knew that it had to be a software company.
That it happened to be in the area of geographic mapping was
more a coincidence.
We both did no other jobs, but just started the venture straight
out of University.
Have you got any qualifications? Please tell us about yourself
academically?
We hold a masters in computer science.
How / when did the idea of your website / company come about?
While it was Thomas' idea, its first implementation was
in Alex's masters theses.
If you could give readers of this book one piece of advice when starting
up a business, what would it be?
Don't purchase a fax machine before somebody wants to fax you the first
order.
