Paul Fredrick MenStyle
www.PaulFredrick.com
Your name: Paul F. Sacher
Company name: Paul Fredrick MenStyle
Website URL:
www.PaulFredrick.com
Your company / website vision statement / goal:
Paul Fredrick MenStyle is a high quality, high value collection of
business apparel, classically inspired, yet transcending the ordinary.
What you sell / services you offer (brief description of your company):
Paul Fredrick designs, manufactures, and sells a full collection of
menswear to the businessman including dress shirts, neckties, cufflinks,
suits, sportcoats, knits, trousers, and sport shirts.
Have you always wanted to run your own business? What were some of your
previous jobs / companies?
I initially wanted to work in a large company. After earning my
undergraduate degree (BS in Chemical Engineering) from
Carnegie-Mellon
University, I worked two years for
American Cyanamid. Went back to school at
Tulane
University
Business
School to earn my M.B.A. and then
worked for Texas Instruments for several years in finance and accounting
positions.
How / when did the idea of your website / company come about?
After leaving Texas Instruments, I went to work for my father-in-law at
his shirt manufacturing company. I began to understand the fashion and
manufacturing business and saw an opportunity to manufacture and see
directly to the consumer, by-passing the distributor and the retail
store.
If you could give readers of this book one piece of advice when starting
up a business, what would it be?
Be sure to research the existing companies in your business field so you
don’t end up “re-inventing the wheel”
Who are your role models / mentors and why?
I have three role models. First, my brother, Richard Sacher, who is nine
years older than me, was multi-talented since he was a genius in music
as well as mathematics. I’m sure following in the footsteps of my
brother caused me to work much harder academically because he was a
tough act to follow. My second role model was my father-in-law, Lenny
Abrams, who taught me the apparel business and how to be thoughtful and
diligent when making business decisions. My third role model is Allen
Abbott, a friend and the Chief Operating Officer of Paul Fredrick
MenStyle. Allen is an entrepreneur who initially started and sold his
own business, then became Vice-president of Marketing at DayTimers, and
in 1990 joined Paul Fredrick as VP, Marketing. In hiring Allen, I broke
the old adage of not hiring friends since I knew Allen since the 1980’s.
Excluding yours, what company / website do you like / admire the most?
eBay.com is the website which I most admire since it was an innovative
idea and has developed into the largest store in the world.
