Your name:
Brian Dale
Position / title:
Founder and CEO
Company name:
Peel, Inc.
Website:
www.Peel.com
Your company / website vision statement / goal:
Peel is a leading interactive marketing company reaching tens of
millions of people each month. Having built a vast distribution
system for companies trying to market online and offline, Peel is a
pioneer in one to one marketing and e-commerce.
What you sell / services you offer (brief description of your
company):
By leveraging our proprietary Web sites, a vast network of publisher
relationships and direct marketing lists of millions of people, Peel
is able to conduct one to one marketing and e-commerce. For
instance, we recently provided leads to a large, multi-national
company promoting their new online dating service. Peel was able to
successfully drive over 5,000 people to signup for this new service
in one month. By accomplishing the goals of our partners, we help
them drive growth and reach profitability.
Have you always wanted to run your own business? What were some of
your previous jobs / companies?
I’ve never in my life set out to “start a business” in the
traditional sense. I’m very much a geek and I get very passionate
about subjects. Like many people, a passionate hobby can quickly
become a for profit business. Before I started Peel, I started an
online magazine aimed at the 18-30 set. Thirty friends and I from
colleges around the country created a simple Web site. It slowly
started to gain traffic and eventually started making money. That
seems to be how things have gone for me. A little planning a little
luck.
Have you got any qualifications? Please tell us about yourself
academically?
I earned my B.A. in political science at the University of
Rochester. I have also studied political theory at Cornell
University.
Probably, the work experience that was most helpful in working on
Peel, was my three summers writing advertising copy at W.B. Doner
Advertising. I learned a ton about not just advertising, but how
people interpret advertising. They showed me that advertising and
marketing messages while often stupid, can be brilliant too.
How / when did the idea of your website / company come about?
I got hooked on the Internet soon after college while preparing for
graduate school. I would hang out in the school computer lab
messing around with HTML and then I started the online magazine.
If you could give readers of this book one piece of advice what
would it be?
