Have you always wanted to run your own business? What were some of your previous jobs / companies?

While at college, I had the opportunity to work with an environmental NGO and also did an internship at the United Nations.  Upon graduation, looking for suitable international work experience, I worked in Japan for a year in marketing at a Mitsubishi affiliate.  I later moved to Los Angeles and began a six year stint in finance at the Union Bank of California.  During these six years, I moved up from an analyst to a Vice President, and raised capital for companies in various sectors, including, retail, entertainment, technology and energy.  This experience gave me the opportunity to work with both, the large multinationals and the small entrepreneurs. The idea of starting a business occurred about seven years ago, while I was still working in finance and coming in daily contact with exceptional entrepreneurs who had created successful ventures and it quickly became my mission, as well.

I come from a family where everyone seemed to complete college or graduate school and then started at a steady corporate or similar job; therefore to some degree I faced some external resistance and also some personal fear of commencing something new and untested.

Have you got any qualifications? Please tell us about yourself academically?

I received my undergraduate degree from a liberal arts college in Florida, where I focused in Economic Theory.  While I do realize now the importance of academic achievements, at the age of 17, when I began college, I was most interested in graduating early and starting work.  I was pretty much a B-student and did not find academics adequately challenging, up until my last year at college.  Shortly thereafter, I graduated the same month as my 21st birthday.

On the other hand, grades or academia are definitely not an accurate predictor of future success, as most entrepreneurs would tell you.

I later went through an intensive 16-month long Banking and Finance training program at Union Bank of California, where I had my first exposure to accounting, finance and law classes.  It was intense because we were training under professors from UCLA, USC, etc. and if one did not receive the passing grades, one could get fired.  Later, I went on to take some more classes, in various fields, at UCLA.

How / when did the idea of your website / company come about?

The concept of my business was an outcome of our analysis of the internet and its applications, in sectors lacking large players and where consumers could gain from the aggregation of the sector.  It quickly became apparent to us the art was one such sector where the industry consisted of hundreds of thousands of small players, around the world, and lacked in customer service.

PicassoMio.com emerged as a result of our research to aggregate the sector and to provide the highest level of customer service that a company can provide.
